The Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance (NAPA) is working hard to achieve a ban on fur farming in Norway.

In 2008 there were approximately 450 fur farms in the country, holding about 500,000 mink and 300,000 foxes.

In recent years, NAPA has worked intensely to bring an end to the country’s live fur animal exhibitions, where animals are displayed so farmers can select those with the ‘best quality’ fur to breed from.

The practice of live fur animal exhibitions adds significantly to the suffering endured by fur animals, as they are transported long distances and held in small cages or restrained with mouth clips.

Hundreds of foxes and other animals were transported and displayed like this every year, but thanks to NAPA’s sustained efforts the Norwegian authorities finally agreed to ban live exhibitions.

This ban, which is now in place, represents a small but important step towards the abolition of fur farming in Norway.
